Description
This authentic WHW (Winterhilfswerk) flag badge represents the Flakartillerie (anti-aircraft artillery) and was issued as part of the Winter Relief fundraising campaigns in Germany during the late 1930s and early 1940s. The badge is designed in the form of a regimental flag and features a red field with contrasting white panels and a central Iron Cross motif surrounded by a wreath. The reverse is clearly marked “Flakartillerie” along with the production code SU 12. The original pin assembly remains present.
WHW badges were distributed in exchange for donations to the Winterhilfswerk organization and were produced in a wide variety of themes, including military branches, units, and historical motifs. Military-themed examples such as this one remain especially collectible among insignia enthusiasts.
This example shows honest age-related wear consistent with an original period piece.
