MDWW2BATTLEGROUNDS EXCLUSIVE
This WHW badge shows the city “Krakau” (Krakow) and a swastika. It was produced in June 1941 and was part of the VDA charity collection titled Wappen deutscher Grenzstรคdte. These plastic badges feature the coat of arms (Wappen) of cities located near Germany’s borders or within German-occupied regions. Each piece stands approximately 1.5 inches tall. A very neat item for every WW2 collection!
The WHW, or Winterhilfswerk (Winter Relief Organization), was a Nazi-era charitable initiative organized by the National Socialist People’s Welfare (NSV). It aimed to provide support for impoverished Germans during the colder months through public donations and fundraising campaigns. Donors were often given small tokens of appreciationโsuch as badges, pins, or other collectiblesโcommemorating different themes, regions, or cultural motifs. These items have since become collectible artifacts reflecting the propaganda and social efforts of the Third Reich. Members of the Hitler Youth (Hitlerjugend) and the League of German Girls (Bund Deutscher Mรคdel) often went door to door to solicit donations, reinforcing the regimeโs emphasis on duty, community service, and ideological commitment among young people.
