Description
This is an original WWII German WHW (Winterhilfswerk) donation badge, designed in the form of a flag and representing the motorized pioneer units (Pioniere mot.) of the German armed forces. The front shows a stylized military flag motif, while the reverse is clearly marked “Pioniere mot.”, identifying the unit type. The badge retains its original pin-back fastening and shows light, honest wear consistent with age and wartime manufacture.
The Winterhilfswerk (WHW) was a nationwide charity organization in Nazi Germany, organized under the National Socialist People’s Welfare (NSV). During annual fundraising campaigns, donors received small commemorative items—commonly referred to as WHW tinnies. These pieces often depicted military branches, regional themes, or symbolic imagery and are today collected as historical artifacts from the Second World War.
This example is a genuine period piece, suitable for collectors of WHW items, WWII-era German militaria, or themed collections focusing on pioneer and technical units.
