Description
This is an original WWII-era German WHW (Winterhilfswerk) donation badge, featuring a flag-shaped design with a military motif. The reverse is marked “Pioniere”, referring to the engineer (pioneer) units of the German armed forces. The badge forms part of a military-themed WHW series that highlighted various branches and unit types of the Wehrmacht. It retains its original pin-back fastening, though the reverse shows visible age-related wear and corrosion, consistent with period manufacture and use.
The Winterhilfswerk (WHW) was a nationwide charity organization in Nazi Germany, organized under the National Socialist People’s Welfare (NSV). During annual fundraising campaigns, donors received small commemorative items—commonly known as WHW tinnies—as tokens of appreciation. Today, these items are collected as historical artifacts illustrating civilian life, propaganda, and fundraising practices during the Second World War.
This example is offered in used, period condition, with honest wear that reflects its age and wartime origin, making it a suitable addition to a WHW or WWII-era collection.
