Description
This authentic Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter (Mother’s Cross) in Silver was instituted on 16 December 1938 and awarded to German mothers who bore and raised multiple children in recognition of their contribution to the nation. The silver class (2nd Class) was awarded to mothers with six to seven children. The cross features the characteristic blue and white enamel finish with a central medallion bearing the inscription “Der Deutschen Mutter”. It remains one of the most recognizable civilian awards from the Third Reich period and is a historically significant collectible.
The reverse is dated 16. Dezember 1938 and bears the facsimile signature of Adolf Hitler, as originally designed for this award. This example retains beautiful enamel, clear details, and a natural age patina. It comes complete with its original period neck ribbon, making it a more desirable and display-worthy example than crosses found without the ribbon.
A genuine wartime-issued piece, this Mother’s Cross offers a fascinating insight into the social awards and civilian history of Germany during the Second World War.
