Description
This authentic World War II German Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD) dog tag is an original battlefield relic, recovered in Europe using a metal detector. The tag is made of zinc, the standard material used during the later war years, and remains in good, clearly readable condition considering its age. Each dog tag is stamped with RAD, unit markings such as 5/210, and an individual soldier registration number. These markings indicate that the tag was officially issued and worn by a member of the Reichsarbeitsdienst during World War II.
Historical background
Although the Reichsarbeitsdienst was not officially part of the Wehrmacht, it functioned as a pre-military organization, preparing young men for future military service through discipline, physical labor, and ideological training. During World War II, RAD members supported the German war effort by:
-
Constructing fortifications such as the Atlantic Wall
-
Building roads, airfields, and supply depots
-
Clearing rubble and repairing bomb-damaged infrastructure
-
Serving in auxiliary roles near combat zones
Every RAD member carried an Erkennungsmarke like this one for identification purposes. This dog tag is a scarce and historically meaningful relic — ideal for collectors of World War II militaria and Third Reich artifacts.
